Asiatu (Ah c ah 2) has always loved and respected all living things. As a little girl, she refused to kill insects and would take them outside. Her first educational experience of caring for animals was in middle school while attending a summer vet program at Tuskegee University in Alabama. Later at the Field School in D.C., she interned twice at a local animal hospital in Bethesda. After graduating from Spelman College, she took a break from animals to teach children. Eventually she would return to her childhood passion and work for a pet sitting company, the pet room at the Playseum, before settling at Friendship Hospital for Animals. She worked there for three years where she learned a great deal. However, she prefers the slower, intimate setting of District Vet that is nostalgic of her internships. Asiatu currently lives in a house with two dogs, including her dog Rizzi, three cats and two birds. As if that wasn’t enough, she also boards dogs.
